When Weas Development relocated its office to an old fire station in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward, the company’s design intent involved showcasing its commitment to quality design and non-traditional thinking. What evolved was a modern insertion of finely detailed natural materials while preserving the historic character of the space.
The dramatic contrast between the rough texture of the existing cream city brick and the smooth, clean-lined glass entryway set the tone for the space. The 2,460 sq. ft. office features a bamboo floor that creates a path and organizes the space by separating private offices from workstations and the conference room. A traditional reception desk is replaced with a reclaimed concrete counter, which doubles as a coffee and café bar.
Furnishings in the conference room include tablet arm chairs, a reclaimed glass and steel market/display board and a salvaged wood stump table. Doors are removed from the two private offices, fostering an open and collaborative work environment. The design of Weas’ new corporate office is a clear extension of the company’s corporate culture.
