A master planning study was conducted to give Lakeland Health Care Center options to address their aging building and how to structure the building to accommodate residents well into the future. After reviewing several options and doing a comparison of new versus renovated, Walworth County and Lakeland Health Care Center decided their efforts and monies were best spent on a new 120-bed skilled care facility.
The single-story skilled nursing facility utilizes a ‘household’ concept. The design consists of four 30-bed wings with commons areas, such as beauty, clinic, OT/PT, chapel and a coffee shop/café located in the center activity area. These households are designed to provide activities, dining, bathing functions and access to a landscaped courtyard as well as providing necessary nursing support space for CNA staff to be self-sufficient. The activity center at the heart of the facility incorporates a feeling of the outdoors, featuring high-ceiling and park-like atmosphere with natural light created by clerestory windows.
