The new 330,000 sq. ft. Microbial Sciences Building is a world-class, cross-college facility constructed to replace outdated and overcrowded facilities.  It coordinates University instructional and research efforts in the departments of Bacteriology, Medical Microbiology and Immunology, and Food Microbiology and Toxicology on the UW-Madison campus.  Unique building features includes four levels of underground parking; interdisciplinary laboratory facilities for 47 research groups (500 lab personnel); 11 instructional labs with approximately 360 student stations and support facilities for the labs; a Vivarium (animal facilities) and a large, state-of-the-art international symposium auditorium.  Included are nine BSL-3 labs and six BSL-3 Ag suites.  The building also includes three general assignment classrooms.

Awards: The Daily Reporter/Wisconsin Builder - Top Project; Wisconsin Department of Administration - Excellence in Architectural Design
