Marathon County West Side Master Plan

Location:
Wausau, WI
Size:
Various Projects
Completion Date:
March 2008
Client:
Marathon County
The goal of this project was to create a strategic plan with broad consensus that directs public and private investment for 25 years and beyond. A complete and inclusive planning process took place with adjacent neighborhoods and businesses.  The balance of a university, county operations, a park and fairgrounds all located on land owned by Marathon County, was taken into consideration as this plan was developed.  The result was a plan for a campus and community district that had broad support and could be implemented rapidly. A strategy for land acquisition to implement the vision of a thriving campus and community district was developed.  The plan also identified a location and process to secure federal funding to construct a 43,450 sq. ft. regional learning center for the University of Wisconsin Marathon County and secured Marathon County Board approval within two months.  A robust community planning process took place that included a Design Workshop and Open House to gather citizen input and to keep the public informed.

"PRA was an easy group to work with.  They took our concerns seriously, and when presented with a challenge, they always found a creative solution.  I enjoyed working with them."
