Sustainable Design
As a result of our dedication to environmentally responsible architecture, over 25% of our staff are LEED® Accredited Professionals. Our keynote projects include Madison Fire Station No. 12 - the second LEED Platinum Certified fire station in the world and Tri-North Builders, Inc. headquarters - the first LEED Gold Certified building in Dane County, Wisconsin.
Developing architecture that reduces the impact of the built world upon our natural environment has influenced our projects for over 76 years. Our firm will oversee and document design and construction processes to ensure acquisition of LEED certification and or implement green architecture for a project. Typical design response includes use of day lighting, special HVAC systems such as ice storage, orientation of the building to the sun and wind and careful selection of materials, to name a few.
Other, more involved, approaches that focus on pollutant issues include design of special water reclamation systems, rainwater processing, special construction techniques, and special ways to clean surfaces and maintain the building. We strive to incorporate sustainable design features and materials into areas where they would be the most practical and cost effective.
Plunkett Raysich Architects is a corporate member of the Wisconsin Green Building Alliance and US Green Building Council and is familiar and involved with the LEED program. LEED allows design professionals to proactively design, quantitatively assess and certify the degree to which environmentally responsible and sustainable design features are included in a building project.
Plunkett Raysich Architects is proud to be a part of these two organizations and strives to share our knowledge and experiences. As a result, our firm has been asked to make several presentations over the past year on “Green Buildings - Strategies and Playbacks.” In addition we have put together a listing of resources, articles and related links that can assist you on your path towards a "greener" future.
